The artist has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which works to save the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album the album was named the best record of the previous year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds supported venues that were facing imminent closure due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

Fender is not the first artist to give his honor funds to worthy causes.

When they received the award in the mid-90s for their release their work, frontman the singer declared that the band would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, artist she split her prize across multiple charities, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

In recent years, they contributed their funds to the youth organization that supported their band, alongside other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners M People contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"Winning was ample," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had rescued a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the other in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the venues.
